Hi, I’m Nia.

I am a Clinical Psychosexologist and Registered Nurse, specialising in therapy for sexual function, intimacy and relational concerns.

My work sits at the intersection of healthcare, psychology and relational therapy. I support individuals, couples and partners to better understand the factors influencing their sexual wellbeing and relationships, and to develop practical, meaningful ways forward.

Sexual and relationship concerns are rarely caused by one single factor. They are shaped by the interaction between our bodies, our experiences, our emotions, our relationships and the wider circumstances of our lives.

My approach combines specialist psychosexual and relationship therapy training with over a decade of healthcare experience, allowing me to offer support that is both psychologically informed and medically aware.

I am based in London, UK, offering online sessions via Zoom for clients across the UK and internationally (with some location restrictions). I also have limited availability for in-person appointments in DA6.

My Clinical Background

Before specialising in psychosexual therapy, I spent over 12 years working as a Registered Nurse across a range of healthcare settings, including sexual health, contraception, gynaecology and urology. I still hold full registration with the NMC and undertake nursing work to keep my skills and knowledge up to date, and revalidate every three years.

My nursing experience shaped my understanding of how health conditions, disability, illness and injury, various medications, hormones, surgery, treatments, chronic pain and major life changes can all influence sexual wellbeing and relationships.

Building on my clinical experience, I completed an MSc in Psychology, alongside specialist training as a Clinical Sexologist and Relationship Therapist - allowing me to integrate medical knowledge with psychological and relational approaches to psychosexual support. I believe this combination is particularly valuable when supporting concerns which sit across multiple areas of life - where physical health, emotional wellbeing and relationships are deeply interconnected.

How I Work

My approach is biopsychosocial and relational, meaning that I consider the interaction between:

Biological factors
Including physical health, medication, hormones, pain, fatigue, neurological factors and sexual functioning.

Psychological factors
Including thoughts, emotions, beliefs, confidence, anxiety, past experiences and coping patterns.

Relational factors
Including communication, intimacy, attachment, trust, relationship dynamics and the ways in which people influence one another.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms, I work collaboratively to understand the wider picture and develop a formulation of what may be contributing to your experiences.

My approach tends to be quite solution-focused and goal-oriented compared to a lot of therapists who offer more open-ended work.

This means that while your past experiences may certainly be explored where they remain relevant - therapy with me focuses more on helping you to understand and unpack what is happening right now, to help you to identify practical steps towards meaningful and sustainable change, and to support you in implementing these steps.

Sometimes this approach looks like agreeing a set number of sessions (typically 6, 10 or 12) and fitting our work into those, if this is clinically appropriate for your situation and circumstances. Other people prefer the reassurance of knowing that sessions are able to continue for as long as you are feeling supported and benefitted by them.

A Therapy Space Without Shame or Assumptions

I believe therapy works best when people do not need to hide, minimise or edit parts of themselves in order to be understood and accepted.

I come from a working-class background and grew up with significant socioeconomic challenges. This continues to shape both my personal values and my approach to therapy. I am passionate about improving access to psychosexual therapy for people who may traditionally have felt excluded from specialist support or who have not been able to find a therapist with a genuine understanding of the impact of social class or poverty - and I offer reduced-fee spaces where possible for those who are experiencing financial barriers.

If this is something that would help you access therapy, please get in touch - you are very welcome here.

Beyond Therapy

Alongside my clinical work with individuals and couples, I also provide specialist education, consultation and professional support around psychosexual and relational health.

My aim is to make high-quality, evidence-informed knowledge about sexuality and relationships more accessible - whether supporting individuals, couples, healthcare professionals or organisations, making guest appearances on podcasts or providing expert contribution to media articles and columns.
