Sometimes you know something has changed, but you cannot quite explain what.

Maybe it’s about sex. Intimacy might have become more difficult or strained. Over time you might’ve developed very different levels of desire, and neither of you are satisfied anymore. Sex feels pressured, disconnected or just… absent. Maybe something specific isn’t working in terms of your sexual function, and it leaves you feeling disappointed, frustrated or ashamed - or worse, it’s causing you pain and continued attempts at intimacy feel more and more traumatic.

Maybe it’s showing up more generally, in the way you talk to each other. Communication has broken down. You’re fighting about the same things over and over, saying things that hurt each other. One of you shuts down during conflict, while the other becomes more upset and frantic in their attempts to reach out and reconnect, seemingly pushing the first partner even further away.

Or maybe things just feel different from how they used to, without any obvious explanation.

Often, there isn't one single, specific cause. Sexual and relationship concerns are influenced by a complex combination of our history, physical health, emotional experiences, learned patterns, relationship dynamics and many wider life circumstances and factors.

Clarity has been developed to help you make sense of that complexity.

Using my Expert Relational Analysis (ERA) framework and my clinical expertise, I can synthesise and bring together the information you provide, along with my own observations of how you interact - developing a personalised understanding of the factors influencing your concerns and outlining some of your options in finding a way forward.

The goal is not to give quick answers. This is not a therapy session. The goal is to provide you with a better understanding on how you got here, and how you make lasting, meaningful change.

You don't need to know what's wrong before you begin

Many people come to Clarity feeling exactly the same:

"Something isn't working, but I don't really understand why."

That uncertainty is completely normal. You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis, a label or even the right words to describe what’s going on. You don’t need to have a clear idea on what comes next.

Clarity is designed for people who want specialist insight before deciding what pathway and input is right for them.

What is Expert Relational Analysis?

Expert Relational Analysis (ERA) is my structured framework for understanding sexual and relationship concerns.

Rather than focusing on symptoms in isolation, ERA explores the interaction between multiple areas of your life, including:

Physical factors

Health conditions, medication, hormones, pain, fatigue, disability, neurological factors and sexual functioning.

Psychological factors

Emotions, beliefs, confidence, anxiety, previous experiences, coping patterns and expectations.

Relational factors

Communication, intimacy, attachment, trust, conflict patterns, relationship history and the ways partners influence one another.

The aim is not to diagnose or label, but to understand.

How Clarity Works

Step One: Comprehensive Pre-Assessment

Your Clarity journey begins with a personalised, in-depth online assessment, completed via a secure client platform. This process aims to explore the areas which are most relevant to your circumstances, which may include:

  • Your current concerns

  • Sexual and relationship history

  • Physical health and medical background

  • Emotional wellbeing

  • Significant life experiences

  • Relationship dynamics

  • Personal goals

This gives me the opportunity to begin analysing your situation before we meet.

Step Two: Clinical Analysis

Once I have reviewed your assessment, I can begin identifying themes, patterns and areas that may require further exploration. Rather than spending your appointment collecting basic information, much of the analytical work has already begun.

Step Three: Optional Clarity Conversation

Many clients choose to have a short online meeting as part of the process.

This is not a traditional therapy session. Instead, it provides an opportunity for me to:

  • Clarify important areas of your assessment

  • Explore any questions or gaps in information arising from my initial analysis

  • Discuss and reaffirm your priorities and goals for the process

  • Where appropriate, observe communication and interaction between partners and feed this into the Analysis

For couples in particular, this additional observation can provide valuable insight that helps strengthen the final analysis.

If you would prefer to complete Clarity as a written assessment only, this may also be possible in many cases.

Step Four: Your Personalised Clarity Report

Your report is the central outcome of the Clarity process. Rather than simply summarising our conversation, it brings together:

  • Findings from your completed assessment

  • Any additional information from our discussion or observations

  • My clinical analysis

  • A formulation of contributing factors

  • Practical recommendations going forward

Depending on your circumstances, your report can extend up to 30 pages, and may include some or all of the following:

  • A summary of your presenting concerns

  • Relevant biological, psychological and relational factors

  • Identified patterns or cycles that may be maintaining your difficulties

  • Protective factors and existing strengths

  • Suggested areas for further exploration

  • Personalised recommendations

  • Relevant resources and exercises

  • Guidance regarding possible next steps

The purpose of the report is not to provide every answer. Its purpose is to give you a clear, structured understanding of your situation and a roadmap for moving forward in a way that feels right for you - not just pushing you towards therapy.

Who Is Clarity For?

Clarity may be particularly helpful if:

  • You know something has changed but don't understand why

  • You feel stuck despite trying to resolve things yourself

  • You're unsure whether your concerns are physical, psychological or relational

  • You would like specialist guidance before beginning therapy

  • You'd value a personalised analysis rather than generic advice

Clarity is suitable for both individuals and couples. I also frequently work with clients who are already successfully engaged in therapy. Professionals, including other therapists, can contact me directly via email if you are interested in referring one of your current clients for a Clarity Analysis. My approach is highly collaborative and where appropriate I am able to provide insight into specific questions and concerns that you can incorporate and take forward into your own therapeutic process.
